stupid question about XP on Macbooks

Sorry for this, but I don't understand something.
If I have a Macbook with XP installed on it, does that mean that all of my programs have to be windows?
ie could I run the Mac version of Ableton Live, with Windows plugins? Or would I need to buy all of my software for either Windows or the Mac?

YOu would need the XP versions of your apps to run in XP. Fortunately, you get both with Ableton.

But without starting an argument about macs v pcs, is there any point in running XP on a mac? Why not just buy a pc?

I'm a Mac guy, but I will be putting XP on my MBP just for Glitch Blue alone.
Other than that and games, no. Not really.

There are some programs that are PC only, and there are some programs that are MAC only (Logic).
I also believe that you can retrieve files from the XP partition from within OSX, but I could be wrong about that.
That way, you could start a track in LIVE in XP, using some VSTs that are PC only, and then finish it in LIVE on MAC with some of the stuff that is MAC only, or import the whole into logic and finish it there.
Just much more flexibility in the platform.

why buy a pc if you can run XP, Linux and OSX on 1 machine?
with bootcamp you can easily acces the xp partition.
If you don't need heavy audio or video on XP use
www.parallels.com
Virtualization host which is really fast.
switch between XP, ubuntu, fedora, xubuntu and OSX in a second!
OSX as powerfull virusfree stable host ofcourse
