It would be a nice visual to see an A/b comparison btw the two CPUs running live, has this been posted here? I am wondering how big of a difference the core2duo makes.

I doubt it is 39%, as Apple claim.

I've already maxed it out, and I have 8 frozen tracks.

well, you must be using some heavy plugs, or system is configured incorrectly, because I have a p4 3Ghz 768mb ram, and i can get more than 8 frozen tracks and still not max out. Granted, I know how to squeeze every bit of performance out of this thing, but if I had a core2duo, I would never ever get maxed out, i'm certain of this. I get a macbook pro at the end of the month, and i'll know for sure then.

There's an interesting thread here for Logic and new Mac, even though the new Book is not listed yet: http://www.logicuser.de/forum/viewtopic ... sc&start=0

Interesting note: While the Mac Pro is by faaaar the best performer, the IMacs and MacBook Pros seem to be about equal.

Not two separate cpu's but a similar sort of test reported in SOS.
Live 6 review in Nov 06 issue of SOS has tested Live6 using a dual-G5 MAC. They claim twice as much cpu gain by stating that cpu usage dropped from 37 percent on single cpu mode to 19 percent after turning on multi-core support in Live6 Preferences. This was tested using 10 midi tracks and one Simpler Bass patch with effects. Review contains some other interesting and related info as well.

And that is also the conclusion in the Ableton Live performance thread.........................

so is that saying that macbooks and pros are basicly the same and if one doesn't need super graphics the pro offers no musical advantage over the macbook..

or is it saying something else?

Read again, it's iMacs and MBP's, not Macbooks and MBP's.

I'll have a Live 5 performance test on a C2D MBP up in a little bit.
