Hi !

I just updated from Live 5 to Live 6 and now have problems with the Hard Disk red light (overload) and audio dropouts.
I've got several sessions with lots of track (about 30-35 tracks, most of them mono) that work fine with Live 5. But if I open them with Live 6, I get HD overload and big audio drop outs. I searched the whole forum but couldn't find any real answer, that's why I post.

It's obviously very annoying... I really have no choice but to continue to work under Live 5...
Do you have an idea regarding my problem ? How can it be so different between the version 5 and the 6 ?

I already tried : changing the audio/plugins buffer, changing the PCI latency value of my SATA controller, defrag my audio HD (with Raxco Perfect Disk) ... but it didn't really help.

Some info about my setup :
AMD Athlon 3700+
Windows XP SP1
RAM 1GB
1 HD for system, IDE (10 GB, 3 GB free)
1 HD for Audio, SATA (150 GB, 30 GB free - could it be a solution to have a bigger disk with more free space ?)
ASUS motherboard with NFORCE 4 chipset
ATI Radeon videocard PCIE
DIGI 001 PCI
2 * UAD1 PCI

you can try this:
in the folder where your preferences.cfg file is (for Live 6.0.1), create a file named Options.txt
in this file, write
-UseFileSystemCacheForReading=Off

this is because Ableton has changed the system cache behaviour for Live6.it should solve your problem.

I did that and it seemed to help at first. The dropouts have become less frequent, but there are still a few of them.
It is specially the case at the end of 16 measures blocks (when there is a lot going on) - I can even hear those small dropouts when I solo a track at that moment !

And then I got a screen freeze... even better! I already had a couple of freezes with Live 5, and still don't know what causes them.
I appreciated at first the tolerance of Live regarding computer hardware, but now it's getting very complicated, as much as Pro Tools LE I have left for that same reason... so boring to investigate a computer problem when you should be making music and enjoy...
Anyway, let's hope I'll be able to find a solution to these problems.

If you have any further idea, I'll be more than happy to try them out...
