hi everyone

i got live 6 on a laptop and on my pc. on the laptop its more or less ok, makes a few funny noises sometimes, goes well high with the cpu, then calms down, but its not a big problem as i only use it to make tunes and not perform live or anything. hopefully there'll be an update soonish and its glitchy tantrums will get sorted out.

on my pc though its a different story, no matter what i do, even just down to playing one or 2 loops with minimal effects, after about five minutes it starts hanging, sticking and freezing up and becomes unusable.

im thinking that i need to do a total fresh install of pretty much everything, and clear a lot of shite out to see if it improves the situation as it used to be ok when i used it with live 4.
my laptop is just for music, everything else is disabled, the pc is for music and everything else so theres probably some unwanted nonsense in there somewhere.

so..are there any important files in ableton's program files or anywhere that i need to back up so that my sets and songs and things wont be messed up after i reinstall?

also... on my pc i have 2 physical drives, an 80gb and a 250gb. if i install all my windows stuff and other programs on the 80gb, is it better to have all my live samples and stuff on that drive too or will it run better with sounds coming from the other drive?

my pc is windows xp, intel celeron 2.2ghz, 1gb ram

If you have live 6, just self-contain your songs so that all the samples are in the project's folder. The ableton prefs are located in documents and settings. You could also backup the ableton's library of sample just in case.

I have a similar setup like you 60 gigs and 250 gigs and I put Apps on 60 and the data on 250. The reason I do that is that if my windows would crash or just need to reinstall, I don't need too touch the 250 gigs and I can move any apps data to this drive also.

If your 250 gigs is the same or faster than the 80 gigs then the performance won't be affected.

make sure you keep track of your VSTs and any of their settings folders as well. I forgot that one on accident and had to rebuild some things.
