I'm going to Paris this weekend just to have a different atmosphere for 2 days.
I've been there once but it was just for touristic attractions. This time will be more relaxed and with focus on details; local and calm places, interesting music stores, alternative music scenes.
I'm fully open to every advice you could think of. I just don't wanna feel tired after I come back home. My trip code is "rest ur soul in Paris"...

Sit on the left bank with a coffee, and read a difficult book and look intelligent. You'll probably freeze to death though.
The tourist attractions are nice though. Wander around the Louvre and Montparnasse.

i guess you mean montmartre rather than montparnasse.

paris is not the city i would go to rest. but i guess that's because that's i live there.

don't know what to recommend really... you want to visit museums? what kind: paintings, cultural?
the "musee guimet" is really nice: all kind of arts from asia. there's a new museum of "primitive art" quite close, but i heard it's overcrowded.

regarding music shops: you mean gear or records?
music box: you mean those with little metal stripes that make sound when you turn a tube? don't know where to find those.

what i would do if i was you is find a couple of places of interest that are quite far appart, and just spend your week-end wandering in the streets of paris.
then i could tell you which places to avoid because there's not much to see.

I was in Paris two years ago for vacation. I loved it.

It sounds cheesy but I would check out the Eiffle Tower at night. It had this crazy cool light show thing going on. I wish I could have seen the cool lights up close. Ask Peeddrro what the optimum wild-light Eiffle times are.

I went record shopping while I was there but none of the shops I went to were all that great. But then again, I didn't know where to go.

Go to the Sacred Heart Church deal on the hill. Stroll around. Have an ice cream on a waffle cone. Go ahead, you deserve it.

We went dancing one night at a club called Pulp. It was fun. Good DJ. It was free to get in but the drinks were insanely expensive.

drinks are always expensives in paris's clubs...
but some clubs are really great like le tryptique, le nouveau casino or le batofar. the last one is a boat on the Seine river, an incredible place

when I arrived in Paris a few years back, I loved to walk down its streets all day long... also by night... in my opinion you should really try this !
have a meal in a good restaurant in the Montorgueil quarter just near Chatelet les Halles in the center of the town.
and if you go to the Eiffel tour, do it by night, stay right under it and look to the top : you'll feel like in a spaceship with all those lights =)

have a nice time in our town =)

Cheap: Eat a "salad" at Chez Papa.

Expensive: Have a five course dinner at a fancy restaurant. Pay the check without looking at the total.

played in tryptique last year which was really nice, great atmosphere and good crowd... its just around the corner from the REX which is also meant to be cool..

Is the Batofar still going? I heard the old managment were bailing out of it. Is it the same people running it as 3 years ago? Very cool club.

just went there 2 days ago and hadn't been there for a while. detroit grand pubbahs was playing. after waiting 1h outside i coul'nt manage to get in so i gave up.
the place now sucks. they have changed the management about 2 years ago, and it's become really expensive too (the concert was 12E, beers is 5E, a coke 4).
i'm done with it i think. i used to love this place, but not anymore.
le triptyque, le point ephemere, le nouveau casino are cool places.

one more thing that pissed me off with le batofar is that they don't even have respect for the ppl who play there: a friend of mine DJ'd there last summer, and he did it for free (that's ok, he knew it before) but the managers gave him 2 "thank you" beers, that's all. he had to pay 5E for the 3rd one. not very nice and respectfull.


@brightonalex: ok then, the skyscraper is montparnasse. never found this part of paris really interesting.
