I'm having a really tough time figuring out how to use Vokator inside of Live with a midi controller. Hopefully someone can help me out because I haven't been able to find the answer online or in my Vokator manual. Thanks in advance.

wouldn't you want it on a midi track?

i run AU's to a midi track then run that into an audio track so i can record both midi data and audio clips.

but a midi track for sure should do the trick.

how is vokator? sounds sweet on the ni site

doh!
click monitor in on the midi and audio track. set the output of the midi track to audio 1 - vokator. set the input to the audio 1 as you microphon.
make sure you have vokator set to midi mode.. use the computer vocoder presets to get started

D Das and Veggieryan, thanks for the responses, but I'm still a bit confused. *doh*. My vocals were recorded in protools and bounced and are now audio files in Live. I cannot put my vocals (audio files) in midi tracks in Live. I'm not getting it

Refering to your screenshot:

-- Where it says 'No Output' in your MIDI track, select '1-Audio', so MIDI from that track will be sent to Vokator.
-- If you want to play Vocator's Synth live from your keyboard, set monitoring of the MIDI track to 'In', or arm the MIDI track.
-- In Vokator, next to the virtual keyboard, don't select 'MIDI' (like shown in your screenshot), but select 'MANUAL'.
('MIDI' means that you can use MIDI notes to select chords that you draw on the virtual keyboard for the 12 slots represented to the right. 'MANUAL' is the mode for actually playing the synth directly)

It took me a while to figure this out...

What I wanted to do is use Vokator as a vocoder using any two audio sources in Live. Here's how it works:

1) Create an instrument track (I'm using NI Pro-53, patch 124 which has a nice layered fifth) or Create an audio track from an external keyboard
2) Create an Audio Track for your microphone
3) Add Vokator on a third track (I'm using the AU plugin which doesn't differentiate between "FX and Instrument versions"
4) Set the "Audio To" of your instrument to Vokator's track
5) Set the "Audio To" of your mic to Vokator's track also
6) Select a Vokator preset (I'm using Computer Talk 2) and make sure both A & B are set to "Live"
7) Click the "A*B" button in Vokator
8) Now here's the trick. Pan your instrument hard left and your microphone hard right. Panning the two audio channels sends the left side to Vokator's A and the right side to Vokator's B. Now you've got two inputs! Well they're not stereo but what the heck, it does work.
9) Play and talk and voila! Adjust Vokator parameters as necessary (I recommend using the gate on B, at least, to cut out microphone background noise.

If anyone knows a better way to acheive this without using Vokator's internal synth or sample player, I'm all ears.

the method described by inkswitch is the one i like to use most, and the first one that accomplished what i wanted it to. however, i also wonder if there is a better way? or can this be put together as an instrument rack? i've tried it, but i'm new to the "racks" concept and couldn't get it to work. it would be nice to be able to add a "vokator" rack to any project, and only have to decide which synth/preset to use instead of having to build all three tracks everytime.

anyone got a better way?
