Form over function here?
Looks like it might be more "cool" than useful to me.

Those are the same symbols they found on the crashed Roswell saucer. Now we know what they mean. Cool gimmick for making blip noises- just try to avoid bumping into the table

OMG!!! wow!!!!!! So very very cool.
And then I watched the "Discovering Electronic Music" videos also on youtube that was a flash into the past.. looked like late 70s early 80s footage of early synthesizers and computers.. now look at where we are.. I can't imagine where we'll be in another 20 years as interfaces improve and develop!

I know one of the developers and had the chance to play a little with reactable. It's pure fun. You can build it yourself. You need a projector and a webcam and a glass-table. And some crafting skills, hehe. The software is open source and you can get it at their site:
http://www.iua.upf.es/mtg/reacTable/
The application makes the sound, and is working with open sound control - but there is also an option to use it as a midi controler ... and then you can even control live with it.
It also works without the projector, then you do not have the visual feedback, but it still works. Bear in mind that the latency depends a little on the hardware you use. Ideal would be to have one computer working on detection of movement and another one working on the generation of the sound.
