Overall does Stylus RMX work well with Live? I've pretty much decided that's going to be my X-mas present to myself this year.

yes
i use it live on stage.........definitely a good buy
plus the core sound library alone is worth paying the 270 for it.

if you have a weenie HD (40gig) on say an iBook G4 1.33

, would it be possible to have stylus on an external HD and play it through live so as to not destroy any space you have left on your laptop? would that work?

So you use it live on stage ....Thats exactly what I want to do! What midi control are you using? And how are you using Stylus; in Groove menu midi mode or slice menu midi mode? Are you triggering/mixing loops on the fly like I do with the BCR 2000 or are you using a keyboard or pad device to trigger hits in Kit mode? Tnaks for any input. And by the way, Stylus RMX is the best thing since sliced bread!

i use stylus in various ways.........
sometimes i just use it as a sound module for up to 8 different midi tracks and i build from there or i simply build a beat from a chaos driven kick track or hat track..............
as for live on stage peformance, i will have something like another audio loop playing from an audio track and then i let the madness begin by starting a simple track just built from bongos then i might midi assign the reverb to one knob on the controller and i will roll with that. then its time to use chaos........
yea i can go on for days. there's not too much you can improve about the program except that the sage converter should be able to handle its busness with WAV support...........so how do you use stylus?
i control it either through my mpd 24 or x station, for knob tweaks, the mpd 24 is helping me out a great deal since the midi resolution is a whole lot better.

I've been using Stylus for studio use only and I'd like to use it live when I get a laptop. I use the BCR with a modified template that came with RMX. The bottom row of 8 knobs is mixer level, next up is MAster Tone, next is aux 1. The top row of 8 buttons is solo, the bottom is mute. The row of 8 nobs at the top of the unit is dependent upon the controller group selected; either cutoff, aux 2/ reverse (when the knob is pressed), pitch, or chaos pattern/ chaos on-off (when the knob is pressed). All the channels in RMX are output to their own audio channel in Ableton Live.
I use this setup to "live mix" the drum line (after painstakingly selecting the loops I want to use and modifying to taste) until I come up with a good recording that has a vibe of spontaneity . Instant arrangement! Then I add other layers like bass, lead, pad, etc... and finally touch up the drums and the "final" arrangement. Then on to writing lyrics (rap) which again modifies the arrangement. And there you have it.
