Hey guys.
If you were given a $4000.00 US budget and told to buy the best desktop computer (excluding monitor & video card) you could for running Live 6 and other audio-related apps, what would
you choose and why?
Kind Regards,
Alister

Mac Pro quad core with third-party ram, 2-4 gigs, and a few extra disks.
Those things are some of the craziest machines ever.

with $4000 i would definitely get the best mac i could find period. i would either wait until some new ones come out, or if i had to get one now, i would get the most powerful one i could find which as we already said is a maxxxxed out quad.

If it were me - I'd get a fully sweet Mac Pro with like 4GBs or RAM. And at least 2 huge hard drives.
That's cos I like Apples.

Here's an important question: Laptop or Desktop? What other gear do you have to buy? will you need to purchase live6 and the other apps with that $4000? what about monitors? an interface?

If i was sober and rationally (which is hard), I would buy a PC with Core2Duo,
2 GB Ram and two HDs for about 2000 or even less, put away the other 2000
and buy a new computer in 2 or three years.
Doing this, you will have a really powerfull and "up-to-date" Audio-Computer
for the next 5 years or so.
Spending 4000 now won t give you that.
Nothing changes and lowers it s value as much as Computers, if you want to
spend 4000, there are NICE options for the other 2000:
Fireface 400,
good Monitor-Speaker,
a nice and BIG Screen,
a good micro,
a nice Toy like an MPC, Guitar, Bass.... all will give you longer fun & help your music.
But that s just what parents would say. (They are right sometimes, i fear)

20 or 24" imac core2duo w/ 2gb ram should be suffice, I'm going to get one of them as I've got a dell 2407WFP monitor too, but if it's a notebook? BY FAR go for the 15" macbook pro
17 might be too bulky, but im a big bloke so 17" isn't thaat huge for me
