So I am using Live 3 for my live radio show (beathustler.com every Sunday) and I must say it has the potential to be the greatest tool in the history of live broadcasting. Here is what I am doing:

3 mics each with a TC voice strip plug in powered by my TC Powercore PCI card (works brilliantly)

1 tracks with my list of songs each with its own keyboard keystroke (works brilliantly)

1 Record track. Here is my problem. Live crashed when the transport hit around 10,000 measures which I thought had to be the problem so I changed tempos from 130 to 25, apologized to my listeners and moved on. However Live crashed again at about 600 measures with the tempo at 25. By the time the show was over I had crashed 3 times. Now I have three broken audio files each exactly 2 gigs in size. Quicktime says the end of the file was reached prematurely and refuses to play the file. How do I fix these files? Is two gigs the record limit? Is this a ram issue? What determines this limitation?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It could be a FAT32 limitation -- the maximum file length is about 2**31 Bytes,
which is about 2GB. If this really is the source for the crash, you'll have to
work with the NTFS file system.

I'm hearing that from several sources now.

I could swear I've recorded files bigger than 2 gigs before in Logic.

This is an issue that Ableton is going to have to address because Live performers are certainly going to want the option of setting up a record track to record their sets - some of which are going to be many hours in length.

I'll post more as I find out more.

I'm sure too that Photoshop Pros have Huge 2 Gig files for Billboards and such.

Hello,

The 2 Gigabyte limit is given by the filesystem/operating system.
If you plan to record more/longer i would suggest to use either a mono file or portion your Recordings to glue them together later. Alternatively, you can use an external Harddiskrecorder - they have their own file system to allow this.
