AMD dual-core processors and Ableton Live 6.

Has anyone used an AMD dual core with Ableton 6?

I plan on upgrading my desktop PC soon and I am looking into possibly getting an AMD setup as opposed to an Intel chipset. What are your thoughts?

Seems to me that AMD has the better value for the money at the moment. Has anyone had the chance to contrast and compare? I'm not into gaming, I want to build a strictly audio machine.

Eventually I'll get another laptop as well.

Should I even bother getting a dual-core or should I just wait a couple months and get a quad?

I am using an Athlon 64 X2 4200+ (939-pin) and it works great.

As for waiting for quad core, well, you could also wait for 8-core, etc. etc. No matter what you get, there will always be something better coming down the pike.

Come on in, the water's fine!

Right now I am just running a laptop with an Athlon 64 3700+ and for most stuff I do, it's more than what I need. If I start to use up too much CPU, I just resample.

I want to get a dual-core system but it just seems pointless, since quad-cores are coming out soon. I think I'll hold off and get a quad-core laptop. :]

I'm planning on upgrading to the 4x4 system as soon as it comes out. My current dual AMD system is almost 2 years old & still rocks! 8)

Not sure if Live 6 currently takes advantage of multiple cores. But if you are running Live and, say, Reason, you could assign Live to run on core 0, and Reason to run on core 1. That way both programs can rock and not interfere with each other.

Each channel in Live6 uses it's own thread...so it most definitely will use all the cores that I throw at it.
