Tommorow im considering buying a Korg Padkontrol and battery 3 to use within live? mainly battery 3 as i consider it a good partner to the kontrol as it seems a great tool for making beats.
Just wondering before i splash out on battery 3 can i setup live in a way so i can trigger samples for use with my padkontrol , what is the big plus on battery is the sample bank which seems rather good.

I have version 1 of Battery (I'm old school like that) but I'm going to upgrade the package here in a couple weeks
you could in theory rack a bunch of SIMPLERS up and kick it that way
you could use Sampler - however sampler doesn't have the individual outs each cell in Battery does
nor does Sampler allow you to edit each individual sample with a filter or effect
Sampler has a OSC in it but you can layer wave forms in Battery
basically on paper Battery in my opinion is second to none when it comes to a drum sampler - not to mention you can recycle old loops and import the parts into Battery and breath new life into old lifeless beats <--- that was cute
anywayz - I'm sure some heads have made RACK DRUM SAMPLERS - check out the covert operators, not sure but they may have the key to the door you wish to unlock <--- I'm on a roll
peace

Thanks for the reply man, do you feel battery is a worthwhile investment then?
The samples and what it does for the price is whats swaying me.

even if you're buying straight up it's worth it for the SAMPLES alone
there's a few drum samples from the Battery 1 kit I can't live without for real
the new version comes wiht 4 dvd's worth I think
yes - it's worth it!!!
In the end you may just end up using your own samples but really, what they give you, you can damage and destroy beyond recognition with the program itself
get it - you wont be disappointed
plus Battery seems to have one of the better / stable track records of NI products

Lovely.
Just a local music store is doing 10 months 0% interest payments on purchases over £200
Korg padkontrol - £130
Battery 3 - £150
Easily kicks it over, just seems a affordable way to do it, but i was just a bit unsure on battery, as ive only just decided on music production and doing it this way, never have got on doing drums in a sequencer or with a midi keyboard love the idea of a mpc style unit.

As much as I love impulse, Battery was the best investment I made aside from Ableton. There are some great options for drum samplers, but consider me a +1 for it's worth the money, easily.

but you can stack Samplers in a rack.. each Sampler is a cell in Battery..
pretty much the same..

you can layer samples in Sampler.. and if you need individual envelopes you can layer samples in racks by stacking Simplers/Samplers..

Sampler/Simpler/racks as well..

I suggest you first try to build a Battery-like rack filled with Simplers/Samplers/Impulses and have a try with that..
If this is not what you're looking for you could always buy Battery later..
Don't underestimate the things you can do with racks..
You can build a Battery-like rack that comes very, very close to it..
And i.m.o., for what it does, Battery can be quite a cpu hog..

hope you've got a fast computer. i can barely run battery sometimes. i've got a fat performance template i use in Live, with lots of audio inputs, tons of effects, etc. so my CPU is challenged. Battery takes 15-18 % of my CPU using 4 of the available outputs in Battery2. (i think you can have 16 outs).

I made a cool drum rack with layered Simplers, and while I think it's great...to be honest, after using the Battery 3 demo for a few days now I'm not into my rack so much. I think it's the gui/workflow, but having everything in one big box with tabs for the different function pages is way smoother than constantly climbing through racks-within-racks of Simplers and effects, all layed out in a long narrow horizontal row.
Impulse is cool for idea sketching, but without the visual editing capabilities on the wav hit and the complications that arise when trying to figure out how to layer hits, and then the clutter of all the track outs in the arrange page when wanting to add even basic processing like comp and verb (I'm pissed about not getting Track Folders)...using Battery really is an eye-opener on how fast and smooth a (relatively) self-contained solution can be.
just my .02

Battery is excellent. I complained about it being CPU intensive but I did some stand alone tests and it's fine (MacBook CoreDuo 2Ghz here). I haven't heard all the samples (all 12GB of them!) but judging by those shipped with 2.0 it's probably worth the price alone. Why would you want to stack thirty Samplers when you can open one program and have all those effects, compressors assignable to one cell?

battery is indeed awesome! I use the second version and planning to upgrade this xmas... my girlfriend is giving it to me...
But ref your cpu issues. With two I have hardly any problems... smooth as a girls bottom!! Load sometimes 3 packs in one set and is working outstanding.

Right, that was my point!
The one advantage of the rack is it won't cost me another couple hundred bucks....but eh, it's the holidays - splurge I say!
Anyone seen this yet?

youve only got 16 pads at a time without changing scenes on the padkontrol
i prefer using 2 impulses instead of battery
dont get me wrong, battery has some neat features built in
but you can replicate most of them with features live already has
its just a little extra work...
battery is fun though

Build yourself a nice Sampler rack instead. Spend 30 minutes doing it once and you've got a more flexible drum sampler than Battery and you don't have to put up with all NI's bugs and authorization nonsense. Makes it easy to make sure your projects are self-contained and not lose samples too.
