Just wondering if anybody here is using the Tascam FW 1802 as a control with Live. If so, is it any good? They only cost 6 bills and have decent inputs on them. Abyway I'll only use it for a couple of months until I get my hands on a M Audio Project Mix. thanks in advance.

sorry i just find it funny that you're going to use something until you have the opportunity to get a piece of M-audio gear ;)

I've got the big brother (FW-1884) and it works great for me. It boils down to what you want it to do and how much $ you have to spend.

Real faders are a real joy.

I use an FW-1082 daily - no issues with it. It works well and for $600 you can't go wrong.

On paper I'd prefer the longer faders and LCD on the Project Mix but in practical reality for me, it's a non-issue. Plus, the much smaller footprint of the 1082 is a plus.

do tell?

the fact that you have to sacrifice the adat to use the sp/dif is just plain dumb.

depends on your other gear, but adat is more rare than spdif, more channels but not as prolific.

pretty much it's that m-audio is regularly described as 'a dead whore with the clap', caveat emptor.

Just search for Projectmix and drivers. I never have been able to get the thing stable for more than an hour, whether it was PC or Mac. constantly loosing connections between the PC and the unit.

it's not for me, I sometimes let others use my set-up. I like to work on my 2000xl most. Got a full version of Live 5.0.2. free with my Axiom49 (which is just sitting unused) and decided to learn how to use it. I am used to sitting behind big boards in big studios, so anything i buy is a practice piece. just letting you know.

I've been using a 1082 for about 3 months and i really like it. the mackie emulation works great in ableton and the unit is fast. I wish it had some more line-outs. and i wish there were a way to send the CUE track in live to the headphone output on the Tascam.

But all in all i think its a great unit for your money. I really love it.

btw, if anyone knows of a way to work out the whole headphone/cue track thing let me know. I'd really appreciate it!
