Using external fx units in Ableton

Is it possible to run an external fx unit as an aux in Ableton?? If so how??
Well, I do it...
Make a return track.
Route that to an output that goes to your fx.
Then, either have a mixer, or route the output from your fx back into an available stereo-channel.
