vst plugin issue

Hi guys,
i tried a filter plugin inside Live 2.1.2 and evrytime i inserted Live suddenly close and i have to reboot.
I have version 3 now and i didn't try that plugin again, could it be a vst plugin problem not related to Ableton Live?
