I want to assign drum sounds to my controller then record the midi data in live6.

Do I need to use an external program to organize the sounds?

I can hear sounds from impulse on my Akai MPD24 but they are spread out on the pads in places that I don't want them to be. ( some in bank A, some in Bank B)

I'm having a hard time grasping midi concepts overall. If anyone would like to advise on the general terminology I would appreciate it.

Just hit midi learn and assign the samples in any pad you want.

nope, impulse is locked to C2, D2, E2, F2, G2, A2, B2, C3
set your controller to those notes then set monitor to IN on that track.

? Sure,,,, but his problem is he doesn't want them on those pads.

I don't know how to translate the note on the controller to what impulse wants but thats ok.

I loaded up the BFD drumsounds that came with the unit. This seems to work.

Are there any other recommendations for drum sounds that are playable through my controller (akaiMPD24) yet able to be recorded as midi data in Live6?

You can use any drum sampler with the MPD, but you have to learn how to program it. If you want to use Impulse, you have to learn what note it receives for each pad and program the MPD accordingly, and it will be the same with every other drum sampler you try. Besides, I'm sure programming the MPD is way easier and more flexible than making every virtual instrument stick to how the MPD is laid out.

use the scale plug-in to change the midi notes going into Impulse. The input is the horizontal axis, vertical is the output, play with it a bit, it's a simple but really useful little plug-in.

Like you said impulse sounds are set to C2, D2, E2,...

My Akai MPD24's pads are set from 0-127. I used the scale plug in to find what ableton note fits with my akai number.

For example:

c2=60
D2=62
E2=64
F2=65
G2=67
A2=69
B2=71
C3=72

From there I assigned the Akai pad the number that equals the ableton drumsound.

Now I have all eight sounds on my bottom eight pads.

Great post. I love my mpd24 with live 6 now as it makes my djing set more portable. I also have a mpc which covers the midi note and number. I believe that the mpd24 may have the same implimentation in the future. Until then bang on.

sorry to seem dumb, what is a scale plug in? ive just bought my akai mpd24
