recording long files, recovering from a crash

Last night I tried something new in Mac Os 9 Live (1.5, 1.5.2) with bad
results. I recorded very long audio streams (10 minutes or more) and eventually got running out of memory messages. I thought everything would stream directly to disk. I wasn't able to stop recording and recover without killing Live and rebooting. Now it seems the files are there, but I'm not sure how or if I can open them or recover them. I can't
drag and drop them like regular audio clips, and doubleclicking them seemed to not work (complaining about files being newer than the Ableton version - there was some confusion there and I'm not sure which of the two 1.5 or 2.0 installed versions it is trying to open.
Does anyone have suggestions for how to recover these files?
Is it not possible to do very long recordings, then do the loop searching in Ableton? What is the relationship to real memory?
