Automation envelopes....not recording absolute values!

So I mapped a midi trigger to a vst parameter. The parameter starts out 100% Dry and switches to 100% Wet when I hit the midi trigger, Ableton 6 is recording automation with slops (zig zags) instead of absolute (rectangles)
The result is that the parameter fades in and out rather than cutting in or out......I have turned of quantize....I can could go in a redraw the envelop but would like to have sound exactly as it does when i do it real time......any help on this would be greatly appreciated!
