So i want a Machinedrum, but for now it's too expensive. Any recommendations for good drum synth plugins in the mean time? Looking for something compact with lots of tweakability, i have microtonic already which i like, so something along those lines would be good.

TIA for any suggestions.

Using Operator and the built-in effects is great for creating drum sounds...if youre prepared to put in some work ;)

then just make some macros..

heres a sneak preview (or shameless self promotion) of my work in progress 'Oper808' just to give you an idea of where you can go..

If you dont have Operator then you can use Simpler to do pretty much the same things.

Then combine your drum sounds with the Covert Ops 'Covert Seq' and there you go a complete drum synthesis and sequencing solution all within Live. :)

aside from that theres a few decent plugins..
Waldorf Attack is quite interesting and can make a wide range of drum sounds.
DR-008 is highly rated (although i cant stand it myself)

for free / donationware stuff you can do a lot worse than Odo's plugins :

LiveTweaker and Dr-Fusion are both pretty cool and tweakable.

also have a read through this thread on KVR for more suggestions :)

You on XP? Check out drumatic, and drumatic vintage. Free as well. Drumatic is simply excellent.

Reaktor has SineBeats, Massive, Newscool, and sample mashing in L3 as I remember off the top of me head.

Try RM IV, it has some pretty unique drum synth functions.

Puremagnetik's Elektrodrum uses ROM waveforms from the Elektron Machinedrum and emulates very similar functions (timestretch, sample rate reduce, envelope, filters). You can hear a demo here! http://www.puremagnetik.com/mp3s/03%20Elektrodrum.mp3

:D

GURU, basically a MPC in soft synth form. Dead easy to program, and comes with a couple Gigs of samples.
Besides the built in stuff Live can do, this is the ultimate solution IMO. I have Battery, Attack, Reactor and quite a few other solutions, but GURU comes in first, and without a fight.
Though Reactor, Attack and battery all are kind of cool, GURU simply works like Live does IMO.

What does a MachineDrum sound like? Have you got any examples?
