Ableton Forum

I'm thinking of moving there from central California. I don't know much about the scene. Can somebody refer me to a good website for info on the Seattle electronic music scene. This would be a HUGE move for me. It's either that or San Francisco. Seattle seems to be cheaper (as far as monthly living expenses), but it puts me very far from my family and my best friends.

Lived in both places. Personally most of my immediate family is in Eugene OR, so I can visit fairly easily. I love SF though. Here's the rub, if you think you might settle in either city, then be warned, unless your family has serious money or you do, you will never be able to afford to buy property in SF.

the price of gas and rent are cheaper in Seattle, but then again so is the average wage. I pay one of my employees $9 an hour, and I have no idea how he survives on that, but he does. Seattle is less of a 'real' city, and you're less likely to get beat up here, but also less likely to get laid. SF is friendlier, and more violent.

SF has better weather, it drizzles here, much less appealing than fog...

I'm new to Seattle, and found the last few Ableton Live Users group meetings promising.

i've lived in Dallas, NYC, Portland, Columbus, and Seattle. (haven't lifed in SF, yet)
I don't know many folks here, but I think it it looks promising.....

Thanks for the feedback guys. I think I have a lot of decision making ahead of me. I don't think that Seattle would be even half of what SF is as far as trance/progressive house music... but I could be completely wrong.

I did forget to mention that that style of music is my focus.

I can't say any electronic scene is really well supported, it varies, whatever is in flavor that month might get hot, but it's gone the next. SF I would guess would have a HUGE progressive house scene. Gays love house! and hippies like trance, so yeah, SF would be good.

Jesus man! just read your bio. much respect. Swans were a great band IMO. Godflesh were about all I listened to in the 90's....... serious. My old drummer was a major Prong fan as well. When the hell is Jesu going to play here?

Work, I work construction as a painter, own a small painting outfit. the guy basically sands and masks off things for spraying. What kind of work do you do normally? it's slow for us right now.

Jesu will be in Seattle April 3rd, if all goes well. There have been visa issues in the past. Not sure if Ted will make it on this tour. I hope so.
