Create a blank template and upload it to one of the template spaces.
On the SL, select the blank template, and hit the 'write' button.
There should be an option on the screen like 'to template #'. This is where you want to save the blank template. Just do that for every template space and you're in business.

its a good idea but the space of the old template persists, though nameless, and i want to delete the actual space so that i dont have to scroll so much when shifting between automap and the templates i actually use. is not possible to actually delete a template, not merely blanking it?

No you can't actually get rid of the unnamed template altogether. You can just make it blank. But if you just want to have them close together, just use the templates near to template 40 (automap) if you want to go back and forth.
Also, you may like to know that you can actually assign templates to the buttons on the SL. Meaning that instead of scrolling, you can hit the button, and jump right to that template.
