How are the m-audio's (1814 in peticular) doing with the intel chips these days?
I once owned a 1814 with my 12" powerbook back then (i now have the pleasure of owning a 15" MBP), and it didn't work well. cracking sounds, high latency, ...
I've got the Motu ultralite myself, witch is heaven, but i was just curious how the drivers for those m-audio's were at this point (pro-users review welcome:) )...

I'm really not sure about the 1814 specifically, but maudio fw drivers are suspect to say the least.

My old (burried) 410 was just trash......nothing but trouble! That unit is arguably the worst soundcard ever made, but I've heard some of the others are not so bad though.

there is another higher prices unit, but reviews have been fishy about using the included fx.....

I'm guessing that is your price range.....I have the motu traveler and I must say I've had good luck with it so far, but it's higher priced.

I own a FW1814 use with my Win Desktop, Toshiba M50 and my friend got a Mac Book Pro, too. Maybe I'll try this combination and report my experience later. But I can sure it works well under windows and intel-based hardware. But I'm very curious about MOTU Ultralite, how dose the stand-alone function work?

Hey, Im using the 1814 with a MacBook and it runs great, I can get the latency down pretty low. I always think maybe the grass is greener on the other side (like getting an Ultralite because its so sexy), but then I think about the 2 headphone outs and ADAT expandability if I ever want to get an 8 channel mic pre. Ive had mine for over a year now, used it with my old Macmini, worked great on tour, and now with my MacBook it still works great. AND Im prolly gonna get Pro Tools in the future, and I hate the Digidesign hardware.

After owning the Ultralite for about 4 months, I see no absolutely no reason why someone would want to switch to a FW1814.

I use Protools M-Powered sometimes, not having any problems with the FW410 on either a Macbook C2D or a MacPro....

that being said, there are a lot better sounding units out there!

but my 410 works fine with my mbp coreduo .. both on osx10.4.8 and windows xp
