LIVE 6, 6.01, 6.03 constant crashes

Hi everyone

I recently upgraded to live 6, and it just doesn't work on my setup.
cpu maxes out, hard disk overloads and Live crashes for no reason - or any reason at all.

Load a couple of audio tracks and fool about a bit - Live crashes, and windows too
Load vst - Live crashes, and windows too
render - crash, crash
load 3rd party plugin (legit of course) crash, crash

and a number of other things bring about this double crash!!!
In effect, I can't use Live 6 at all

Detailed machine specs:

xp pro service pack 2
amd athlon 64 3400+ cpu (codename Clawhammer, socket 754)
1 gig ram
M-audio projectmix
7200 rpm system drive
7200 rpm external audio drive

I am currently mixing a hiphop album IN LIVE 5 - which still works as good as ever.

I am very puzzled and very sad - cause I cant wait to start using it.

Any suggestions???

Do you have a dedicated video card or not?

The only thing that comes to my mind (I'm no AMD user) might be that Live tries to do something "illegal" with your AMD CPU. The main difference between Live 5 and Live 6 is Dual core support. Your CPU is no Dual Core, from the specs I have read on AMD web site. Your Mainboard might accept new Athlons X2 and so create some confusion in Live 6. Have you already tried to see if Live sees one or two cores in the Preferences? If Live sees two cores try disabling one. After backing up your preferences files in Live 5 directory, try reinstalling Live 6 and see what happens. Corrupted Preferences files might cause crash problems, even with Live 5.
Sorry but I do not have more than this, apart contacting Ableton Support.
