Axiom 49 knobs not working

Hi, i just bought an Axiom 49 to use with my music software, and am having some problems getting it all wrking in live. It seems to be picked up correctly as an axiom so im not sure its a driver issue... maybe i'm missing somthing obvious.
SO anyway, heres the prob, the keys work fine when assigned to a synth or drum machine, as do the drum pads (tho a little re-mapping was required) but my faders and rotary nobs just do not get picked up. The little yellow light in the top right corener that indicates incoming midi data flashes, so i know that ableton is recieving my midi data, problem is when i go to midi map mode and try to map something to a fader or nob, nothing happens. A friend is having a similar problem with an Evolution U control, IE no pickup of incoming midi controls when mapping.
If anyone has had similar probems and sorted it i would appreciate hearing from them, its prob something really simple and daft but i've searched the threads and havent found an answer yet.
I also use cubase and have had no problems with the axioms nobs and faders in that DAW, but for live work i always use ableton, so its really annoying for it to not work straight out of the box!
