Hello All,

I'm not able to find a solution for the following action in the midiclip editor.

I want to copy a group of notes and paste them at a specified location further on. Not by Control-dragging but by copying and then mark the region were they should come. Control-dragging is usefull if the copied notes come nearby the original ones but not if they have to go 60bars further on.

When I use copy/paste they're put just one step further (from the original notes) depending on the grid settings (1/16 1/32 etc). I' m not able to specify the location where they should come.
I tried using the loop brace to mark the region but that doesn't seem to work either because they are pasted somewhere completely "random". Mostly outside and before the loopbrace marked region.

I've read the midi clip section in the manual again but the only reference to copy/pasting is by the loopbrace. this seems only to work if you mark all notes in this loop region by activating the loopbrace. If you only mark a certain group of notes by rubberband them they are even not copied in marked region by the loopbrace if you move it further.
They appear somewhere...well...Random... in my eyes

I have to say I'm really disappointed that you can't do this. Very weird. There should be a position marker which you can place in the midi clip view!!!!!!!!!!!!!111!

So there is really no way of doing this??

It seems something completely overlooked. In the arrange view you can place a marker and copy/paste clips at marked position. So I assume the same concept would be there for events in clips.

I know, I feel like I'm doing something wrong because at the very least it seems weird that I havent noticed it before.

You can do it in the main arrangement area, but it does seem like it should work the same in the clip view.

Here's another thing I don't get:

If you copy the notes, then move the play marker forward in the clip, then paste, you get the notes pasted in negative time before the 1.1.1 marker. Could someone explain the logic there?

Maybe you have to insert a few tens of bars of <i>tacit</i> or some other blank space and then you can paste where you want? I have seen this kind of behavior in some other progs.

Not a solution, but instead of cntl/drag just paste and then use the arrow keys (they move selected midi notes). Little easier on you.

Still it would be nice if Ableton could adapt this. It's fairly basic.
Live has great features. But I'm bothered by this problem for some time, thinking it was something I didn't understand.

Before pasting,
set your clips note/grid lenght to 1,2,4 or 8 bars.
Also try to use ctrl/apple+d instead of ctrl+c/v with these settings,
you can get already more predictable results.
When copying notes from one clip to an other,
remember to set the new clip to the same lenght as the original one,
otherwise you'll get the negative offset notes,
and again think to adjust the notes lenght to at least one bar.
