please please help!

i am getting serious spikes/clicks during the recording of vinyls through my sound card - anyone else had similar problems?

this is driving me nuts!

every tune i record onto the pc is the same 4-5 clicks per track and i cant even edit them out in a wave editor...

i am seriously thinking of throwing this sound card in the bin!

all i want is to record some vinyls onto the pc... is this too much to ask?

i am using a firewire adaptor in the cardbus slot as the laptop does not have a firewire port - could it be the adaptor or the sound card?

also, i know the sound card is supposed to be powered off the firewire but because its going through the adaptor (and doesn't seem to have enough juice to be self-powered) i had to buy an ac adaptor to power the unit - this spiking problem didn't occour a few months back so i'm disregarding that as a potential issue...

i have seen people saying this card is basically a piece of crap in these forums - can anyone recommend a cheap alternative sound card maybe? all i want to do is record me tunes onto the laptop!!!

Hi,

which operating system/service pack do you have installed?
at what sample rate/bit depth are you recording?
what`s the settings in your Live Preferences:Audio? Can you increase the buffer size in the Preferences:Audio and check if you still get the same problem.

Did you contact M-Audio to check if the Audiophile is compatible with that Firewire card you are using?

the operating sys is win xp, service pack 2

someone else has suggested the sample rate issue, but doesn't sound forge & live just have standard sample rates straight outta the box - is it 44kHz, 16 Bit or something like that? have never played around with those settings...

i am recording straight into sound forge - perhaps i should start recording into a live audio track to compare?

i will double check the audio preferences in live and get back to you.
