Macbook Pro/clicks and major dropouts with Live 5

hello live people
i've just installed live 5 on my new macbook pro 2.16 and the demo's won't play without constatnt stuttering, dropouts and clicks. I've maxed my buffers, to no avail. anyone else had problems with the new macbooks? I was looking forward to a tasty performance from the core 2 duo but am currently denied
any advice much appreciated.

You need to update to Live 5.2 or Live 6, only those have support for the new MBP's and Intel processors.

You also would have to upgrade to LIVE 6 to get the full performance advantage of the dual core. Only 6 has multi-processor support.

I've updated to 5.2 and it seems to be running fine. What limitations are there likely to be with that? ableton support advised the 5.2 upgrade is compatible...

Prior to 5.2, the program was not Universal Binary and would be running under Rosetta which is an emulation of the old PPC hardware. Any emulation takes a hit in performance, so really, it was like you were using a very below par processor.
5.2 is a Universal Binary, so it will run natively on the intel macs, and 6 incorporated multi-processor support.

Yeah, I noticed quite a difference between 5 and 6 on my MacBook Pro... I would definitely recommend an upgrade
