can it really be possible that i have got a cpu overload with only 9 midi tracks running? I use live 6.0.3, only live-plugins, a 1.333 ghz powerbook.

I have used logic for years and its interface really sucks, that's why I changed to live.. but with that little amount of tracks I can't produce any music....

can someone tell me what I am doing wrong?

It all depends on the plug-ins. MIDI alone uses very little CPU.

Load multiples instances of high-CPU effects and watch just about any computer choke.

Everything that hambone says is true, but you also have to realize that LIVE's audio engine is designed to do everything in real time, without audio drop-outs, and without having to stop the audio engine. I believe it is because of this that Ableton tends to use a little more CPU than other DAWs.

G4 processors are a little old now as well. But heck, so is my CPU. Hopefully going to upgrade to a Macbook soon so I can take advantage of the multi-processor support, and to get Logic.

Cheers,
AB

How much RAM ya got? Without enough RAM, the computer appears to max out 'early', especially if you're running sample heavy soft synths and stuff.

Live never ran as well on PPC Macs
