i can't seem to get it to do a number of things
that the esx will do and even my old akai s3200xl will do

i can't seem to import samples to individual key zones in bulk

ie: i want to import a load of one shot vocal phrases but i have to set the zone for each one by hand whic takes forever

and then once i've done that i have to adjust the root note for each smple to make it play back at the correct pitch ( ok i just sussed that bit out but it's still a pain )

i just don't get it

am i overlooking some menu somewhere? ( no )

or is this sampler just not very well thought out for that kind of thing? ( yes )

if you want to use it for drums for example you'de be there all day setting zones and root notes , what a palaver !

this is so easy to set up in the esx24 it's untrue

and no filters on independant samples only on the overall mix

and no individual outputs ?

what kind of sampler is this exactly?

come on guys , the sampler in its various forms has been with us for 2o years
sort it out , kets get an operating system that caters for all it's potential uses
and lets not make it too mouse intensive either , buttons are way quicker we all know that
so please more menus
more automated mapping functions
more filters
more flexible interface ( detachable to a new window ?????) please please please

and that brings me to my other point......

ive never used it but i get the impression its more geared towards synthesis?

I'm with you here. But its a lot quicker than my old E6400. However, it does help if the original sample set contains the root notes embedded into the wav file, which a lot of library samples should already have.

I wish the little keyboard in the zone window could be zoomed in though. On my screen it is rather small and setting up zones is very fiddly.

The easiest way is to turn off pitch tracking with the midi note. The sampler calls it 'scale'. That way it doesn't matter what note you press the sample always plays back the original speed.

I have to admit I find it rather easy to use. Setting loop points and general control of filters and amp is very easy.

I use Impulse for my drum needs. But I could imagine loading up the Sampler with a load of drum wavs would be tiresome.

Don't forget racks. I use these for multimbral Sampler patches.

I had a go with several VSTi samplers a month or two ago. I found Sampler to be the best one for me. But I'm on PC and I don't have the ability to use Logic's one which is supposed to be very good.

Actually Logic's is almost exactly the same as Sampler. One filter setting for the whole preset, and relatively simple to use.
The big advantage of the EXS is that the EXSManager, a third party application, somehow makes loading patches lighting quick, it's very impressive.
I'm a big fan of Simpler and Kontakt. Between the two I have no need for any other dedicated sampler.

I have to agree dave, loading in several one hit samples across the hole keyboard should be easy and it is not. It takes way to long. As you say I have to go in and set the range of each sample one at a time. Quite lame. For these things I have to turn to kontakt. It is a shame when you want to use the OSC to mess with a hole kit though. The sample loading needs to me improved if you ask me.

thats pretty fiddly as well
also it won't import my s3200xl progs grrr!
i'm using it and it's good once you get it set up
but i cannot get on with the interface
could we possibly detach it in a new window please???
