It's more about the artist than his tools. With that said, spend some time with another artist that uses MAC and see if you like it better. No one but you can answer this question.

Jeez there's no way you'll get an answer to that question without an argument.

what are you using it for production or dj? I have both Dell xps and a macbook. I like them both alot. I am not going to debate which is better. But as far as producing on a laptop it seems a little small to me. I use my macbook for more of djing and editing. I use my pc for producing mostly. I guess its all about what you want to do.

You will get slammed by Mac people saying that Mac is better all day. I am Mac neutral and can tell you that both have their ups and downs.
I personally favor pc's as there is just more scalability and you are not locked into a proprietary environment for future upgrades. On this forum I tend to give the Mac lovers grief as they are like Jehovah witness's to me, wanting to convert every one to see the light.
Before they switched over to the Intel chipset they we're vastly better
-64 bit OS
-less crash issues
-easier plug and play
-fire wire first motto
Now, they are just over priced PC's. Dell is even trying to negotiate a contract to load OSX Dell computers (that is how special Mac is, the infrastructure is now the same)
SO if you want to swallow marketing and join the Mac cult . . . . .
KUDOS
If you want a machine to do your music and more; Mac will do it but at a 35% mark up for a little apple on the case. I have 3 Mac’s and 5 computers and I give away my ipods that I get from apple reps where I work ( the screens and batteries are designed to die in 9 - 14 months, I like ARCHOS).
At they end of the day, yes Mac is great IT IS NOT WHAT IT USED TO BE
Vista is very much leveling the Mac vs. pc playing field (AN I ABSOLUTLY HATE MSN, but this new OS is a fresh breath --->after the first service pack!)
SO Mac users will hail down fire and brim stone, tell you Mac is the only way.
Pc users will say Mac is junk
I say it’s that same damn thing for more money!
YOu just can upgrade with Mac only parts. Have you ever bought your floor mats from the car dealership

I fall into the camp that will tell you that buying mac is better than pc anyday. Why, the machine's rock, I can run osx and xp side by side, and use both for production. You can't do that on any other computer than a mac. And, I've done a pricepoint comparison for my clients, and Mac's are now just as cheap, or cheaper (cheaper in most cases) than their pc (major manufacturer) counterpart, including Dell. I just bought 2 new Dell Latitudes D620, and buying a new Macbook pro with a faster processor and larger HD (same ram) was cheaper per laptop by 100E. That's right.

Mac/PC... it doesn't really matter any more, unless you've got specific Mac or PC software, and not running an Intel Mac with XP.
It's just a box, and not worth arguing over, although you'll see plenty of insecure peeps getting anal over the issue.

Nice potty mouth, leaveittothepros. I am glad to see you have an extended vocabulary!
Do your homework, and get of the band wagon. Marketing is a bitch!

*sound of jaw dropping*
-ahem-, you can't be serious, right? I really don't feel like throwing the first stone in what will undoubtably be another 10 page flamefest, but I must beg to differ on this point.
Regardless of your feelings about stability and hardware ease, the PowerPC series of chips didn't have a future. IBM was clearly not interested in putting more money into R&D for a laptop form factor chip, and the G4 series of laptops were embarassingly slow. 64 bit machines are still not needed for modern computing, and it's safe to assume that Intel will lead the way on that switch when the time comes. The relative success of the G5 compared to cheaper, more powerful 32 bit chips shows this point as well.
The only thing that Apple did wrong with the intel switch was to do it five years too late....
Now, they are just over priced PC's.
Agreed. It's like buying a BMW... 50% the bill goes into parts, the other 50% into the name brand and the "style". However, "overpriced" is somewhat misleading, as the quality of parts used in mac laptops is quite higher than those found in your standard Dell machine (and believe me, I've had plenty of Dell laptops, too).
Dell is even trying to negotiate a contract to load OSX Dell computers (that is how special Mac is, the infrastructure is now the same)
Where did you read this? It'll be a cold day in hell before apple licenses OSX to anyone else.... it's the only thing keeping their hardware line afloat these days.
YOu just can upgrade with Mac only parts. Have you ever bought your floor mats from the car dealership
Are you implying that you must use apple-only parts for upgrades? Is that why there are printed instructions on the underside of my macbook pro telling how to add RAM or replace the hard drive myself?
To the OP; macs are nice, I personally use them for my production (and regular work, too). I think the hardware is usually of better quality than generic PC stuff (esp. for the laptop line). However, the platform alone is not necessarily better or worse than windows for production. If you're using ableton, the experience is almost exactly the same. Most other popular hosts (and plugins) are available for both, but you will run into cases where you need to use a certain piece of "PPC-only" or "windows-only" software. These days, it's more a matter of which OS you feel more comfortable working with... if that happens to be windows, then stick with it. If you haven't used mac before... then maybe go to an apple store and try it out, or do some production with a mac friend to see how you like it.
At the end of the day, it shouldn't really matter. The OS should take a back seat when you're doing production... the software itself is what's important.

this highly significant announcement of little importance is officially addressed to forum member darkcatt:
Sorry my exemplary vocabulary has capitulated an undesirable transformation throughout the inner-workings of your heart to summon out the unfounded confidence that the utter rubbish you procure is based on even the most minute farthing of truth and the irretrievable idiocy that your floundering represents.
Pah!
