Anyone here using a Sony VAIO as a production/performance machine? I'm more interested in the desktops but I'd love to hear about them all...they seem cool! i'd love to watch and record t.v. on my computer as well make music and graphics. they seem to have a lot of sick features plus they are wicked fast and affordable. question for anyone with a desktop VAIO: what speed is the internal HD on the high-end units? is possible to get fast 7200 RPM drives if they are not standard? there is no info on the website. i never thought i'd say it but i might actually leave the expensive and sluggish world of Mac for the first time, ever.

I am!!!

Yo, I'm a very happy vaio GR114mk user and I can recommend it to anyone....The internal harddisk is ok, but you can better use a 7200rpm iLink one. :) The new GR316 seems like a beast!! I want it.....NOW!!
Good luck.

Standard soundcards are never really usable except in Apple laptops..... latencies are too high. So for semi pro or pro use, go for at least a USB or preferably a Firewire or PC Card solution.
Crackling is very likely to occur in Windows laptops.... or used to occur anyway. See tests at www.rme-audio.com
