I have a registered version of live 5. I hit the "check for updates" button and it said that 5.2 was a free upgrade and for the intel mac which i have. When I installed the upgrade it asked for my serial and I enterd my 5.0 serial and it would not accept it. There was a link for ableton.com/upgrade-intel.mac to get a serial but when i clicked it, it just took me to the Ableton site front page. AAny help would be appreciated.

Hmm you may have gotten some misinformation there.

As I remember it, 5.2 was a paid upgrade for Intel Macs. Free for PPC Macs and Windows. There could have been some exceptions which had to do with purchase dates right around the 5.2 release.
