I have no idea what mojo they have employed in VW - It has go to be the best FX ever. 'Mix First Aid 3' on the master and your track is transformed.

I hate relying on it and I try do without - but ALWAYS end up with 'Mix First Aid 3' on the master

But yes, I have my classics too on the master bus.

I definitely love it. Makes a big difference in sound quality when using tracks warped in complex mode. No need if using repitch.

Biggest tip on Vintage Warmer I can say is not to have the "mix" setting at 100. Things sound soooo much better when it's set around 50-60.

I generally have a VW instance on the master outs as a placeholder for real mastering, and for live shows. I usually leave it at 100% wet, vinkalmann, but I'll experiment with that...

it's easy enough on the CPU that I often use it to warm up dry digital noises on individual tracks too. Been experimenting with saturator/EQ/compressorII combinations but I haven't been able to nail the same sound -- probably because they do all of the above at an oversampled rate within VintageWarmer, which I bet leads to more "shimmer".

Anybody else using VintageWarmer 2 yet?

i can say that make sure you always play with the drive knob and bring it down if the meters are maxxed out so that the meteres are dancing again.

the mix thing makes it nice yes... i often wonder if its really making it nicer or if theres some kind of weird crossover frequency modulation happening as a result of mixing a compressed track with an uncomprressed one and thats maybe what's pleasing?

I have really been thinking a lot about the master buss lately, and, like eamoon said, a plugin as a placeholder for mastering. I have been using the Ableton mastering racks with some decent results, but I am interested to hear what some dedicated plugins might sound like. Maybe I will try the demo.

Doesn't it add some ms of delay when you use it on the master in a live situation?

It also really sucks that there won't be a backwards-compatible UB ever. I have tons of .alc files that don't load/preview now & I guess never will. I did like VW though. I just don't use it anymore.

Yeah, it adds a little delay. I usually have recording delay to work around anyway (things that Live can't possibly know about, like analog bucket-brigade delays I use to grungify the sound) so I'm used to tweaking individual tracks to get them in time. I haven't noticed any perceptible delay on the master outs when playing live, but I'm generally triggering clips rather than playing MIDI notes through virtual instruments...

Word on that. I've been very impressed with that combo too, and that's coming from a former Vintage Warmer user. It's not as good as the multiband Vintage warmer (as it occasionally ducks the hi freqs) but it sounds sweet regardless.

Latency is too high for me, too. Also I find that when pushed the distortion is less tasty than the sat+comp rack I use.

not only is the latency too high.....they did not improve it at all in the newest version.....and that version has lost it's "mojo" imo.

Actually, now that I think about it........I'm still pissed I can't use the "real" VW on my mac
