Live 3.0 crashing under Win XP Pro

Had a couple frozen program locks tonight. I don't really remember the first one, but the second, in Session view I engaged a "Gate"-Live Effect that was in the effects section for a track and it did not function - it the green light turned on, but it did not affect audio for the track or display signals in the green meters. I turned it off, turned it on, nothing. I move it in the effects window to the end of the signal chain, the program crashed and the speakers just started playing a continuous unbroken monotone. After I came down from the drugs, I rebooted my machine and it was okay. Nothing was ReWired, no VST effects were running for either crash.

I think I do have "Map through Soundcard" turned on in the System properties, I will turn it off. Also I have the "Monitor Through Live" switch turned off.

So, I switched off Soundcard mapping through the Contol Panel, reloaded my set. The Gate effect in question displayed similar behavior, so I deleted it and replaced it with a fresh Gate from the toolbar. The problem was solved. So, somehow, the Gate effect became terminally corrupted. Odd.
