Hi all, what would be a considered fast enough for Live 6 to reside in for live performance? A G5 fast enough? Or need to upgrade?

I ran a few sets off an iBook G4 1ghz. It worked, but I had to be careful with the plugins. Get a Mac Book Pro. ;)

Whatever Apple and PC folks have said about G5's my dual 2.5 is at least as capable with Live as the dual 2.16 powerbook. So if you already have a decent G5, you're set IMO.

i run an imac G5 1.6ghz (IBM chip) with 1 GB of ram and it handles all no problem, live, reaktor, kontakt, etc. but if you get one of the new ones with intel chips i am sure it will be even better. i am upgrading to a 24" imac with my next bank roll.

Yep, unless you are just DYING in the performance area, which should NOT be the case....keep what you have and save for the next gen.....

For one thing, I was PC and jumped into the macintel arena very quickly. I love it.....but considering how slow (even now) UB's are comming out...and the fact that when they do they do not always work as well as previous versions, I'd wait.

What he said. Vocator, DSP Quattro, Pro 53, plenty of pluggo freebies, Smartelectronix freebies, Spectral Delay, Atmosphere, Trilogy, All of the Gforce line, all my audio oddities like CDXtract which ports just about any sample CD format to any other format are still not UB. All kinds of cool freebies are not UB.
I bought a macbook pro off craigslist because I got it for dirt cheap, but if I hadn't gotten it for such a steal, I would stick with the G5 and port audio files to the trashed out old powerbook lying around her for live use.
