I obtained an Akai MPD24 on the 26th of December last year and I've been experiencing some issues with the endless encoders. I'm thinking it may be hardware related but it could also be firmware related, just somethings don't "feel" right.

I have not really dove deep into the unit, so I did not notice this until quite recently. Here are the related issues, so please reply if you are experiencing the same issue or have anything else to add.

Pads:
ALL FINE, aftertouch/pressure or whatever works fine aswell.

Faders:
ALL FINE.

Knobs:
- Knob k1 - Slightly jumpy on decending messages, feels tight compared to the rest.
- knob k2 - EXTREMELY JUMPY, FEELS LOOSE never goes past 50%, Useless.
- Knob k3 - NON FUNCTIONAL (No midi information being sent), FEELS LOOSE compared to other knobs.
- knob k4 - Very jumpy, you can kinda use it.
- knob k5 - Normal, works fine, feels nice.
- knob k6 - Very jumpy, you can kinda use it.
- knob k7 - Normal, works fine, feels nice.
- Knob k8 - Normal, works fine, feels nice.

Actually, If I remember correctly I had a similar problem. I was ready to bring it back- but then I switched patches and it worked fine.

Tried changing patches, restarting it etc...

Doesn't help.

I think a new OS for it came out yesterday.....that might fix the problem>?

Haven't had this problem. What has happened to me is that I will be scrolling forward and all of a sudden whatever parameter I am controlling will start turning backwards for a second, then jump ahead to where I have scrolled forward. Seems strange, but other than that everything has been all good.

hallmark of crappy encoders... The same problem was notorious on the Yamaha A-series samplers. 4 nice encoders, totally useless for performance for just those reasons.

...oh, and on the A-samplers the problem got worse with age.

Took the damn thing back and got a firebox, so I am now in the market for a new controller...

The ue-33e looks nice but flimsy and is supported by a reliable company... On the other hand the CME bitstream3x looks hot as fuck, only the company isn;t that well known as far as I can see, so who knows if they will keep the product drivers up to date... I've bought from unknown companies before and had them take down shop without a trace, before fixing their drivers rendering the products useless. (See Aardvark)

same problem on my mpd24

k3 and k6 are jumpy as hell - when i open the midi map, they keep hijacking my other midi assignments in live.

anyone know if this is a defect or a soft/firmware issue?

fuck it. i'm trading mine in for a padkontrol tomorrow.

brought home the padkontrol - very happy so far.

not to be a fanboy, but i got my mpd 24 on november 1st and i gig with it regularly.............never had an issue liek that. it might be a defect.

my encoders are shot too. still no response from akai, i emailed them last week. sweetwater is also "unaware of the problem."
if only the padKontrol had the knobs faders and LCD that the mpd has.

PS: the new firmware as of feb 2nd does not fix the problem either.

looks like this is a hardware issue.
