Call for Live 6 Remote SL templates!

I'm in the middle of a Live6/Remote SL midi assigning crash course, and I thought it could be nice to see what some other people out there have done. It's always best to learn by example, no? I'm especially interested in templates geared towards performance (clip launching etc).

Anybody care to share? I'm going f---ing nuts with this stuff.

Thanks!

Hi there,
Im using the Zero SL with Live6 and its a very cool controller surface. Im basically just using the automap that it came with but I reassigned the following buttons:

1) The endless rotary encoder for Track 8 Ive set up to control Master Tempo. This works well and is much nicer than using a fader. Its great to always have this at hand allowing small (or not so small!) tweaks to the tempo.

2) The 8 touch pads I use to launch clips on Tracks 1-8 for the currently selcted row.

3) I use the very leftmost buttons to do the scene up/down navigation. But at the moment I dont use the scene launch button. Because I have such fine granularity from (2) above I can launch any number of clips by hitting the right touch pads.

4) I reassigned the 8 pots above the launch pads to be the Sends for tracks 1-8. I usually have a beat repeat type thingie on the Return. This allows me to crank the Send for a given clip for a brief moment and get a repeating word. Great for when you are dropping a voice in over the top of something (like the Queens Xmas speech over some dub...great stuff).

5) the 8 single buttons above the pots ive assigned to clip stops. I dont use them much but just in case I accidentally launch the wrong clip I can stop that clip.

6) The top endless encoders I leave alone as they are primarily used for the automap effects. As you probably know these encoders come alive for whatever the currently selcted effect is. Its very cool but I fail to see how to use it relaibly in a 'live' performance. I dont see an easy way to navigate from the clips to the 'track' level where the effects are located....and I dont really want to use a mouse if I can help it....

7) And obviously the 8 faders are for volume adjustment of the 8 tracks.

Im constantly tweaking it for what works for me....but so far thats how Ive done it....Its great and its fun and it just takes using Live to a new level.

Ciao,
Paul.

The thing I was missing on the Ableton Automap was the ability to use the encoders as Pan and FX Sends, becouse using the faders will ruin volume adjustments and are pretty confusing.

So I wrote a script for the bome Midi Translator Pro to automatically map PAN, FX1 and FX2 to the encoders on the left side whenever the PAN or FX button is pressed.
The great advantage is the ability to control these parameters instantly without picking up them first.
That works quite well except for little limitations.

..and I am using a Contour Shuttle Pro translated with the Bomes MTP to Jog/Shuttle through the timeline (using the mackie control entry as a control unit).

The Jugging could also be done with one of the encoders, but then there is missing one encoder for plug- in control.

BTW my encoders worked really bad, so I oiled them a little which helped pretty well.

What are you folks using to edit your automap templates? I tried editing one with the included software and it gave me a very stern warning that editing automap templates could cause them to break.

I got scared and ran away. 8O

I havent gone as far as editing the Automap. I just leave it on the Ableton Live automap template and in general it seems that all the Midi controller assignments are fine. So I just invoke the Midi mapping button in Live and get the events in Live to respond to the 'current' Midi messages that the SL is sending. This seems to work fine.
