Of course you didn't mention Mac or PC... in any case, the MDA piano is one of the best ones out their for free (there are better ones, but you'd have to pay.)

Am I the only one who cannot stand the sound of a synthesized piano? I kept reading all this stuff about how great the piano was on a Kurzweil, so I bought one but after playing it for 10 minutes put it back up on eBay...

I use this free sample set for some things. depends on what you are using it for whether it fits your scenario.

http://www.naturalstudio.co.uk/ns_piano.html
Specs:
Sixty-eight 44.1KHz samples
Multi-layers/velocity (including "mock" dynamics)
Stereo spread
Very subtle loops

Features:
Pro studio recorded Steinway Model B grand piano
Long, sustaining, woody tone
Pedal sounds
Hammer sounds (release) - ideal for staccato sounds
