midi recording mono/stereo

hey guys. i have a question..... i use the tascam 122.hook up my roland synt to it...midi in and out. and the line in left and right.. and when i record midi on the midi channel. no problem. but then i create an audio track. (ext in )...it only comes out good if i put it on channel 1.mono.thinking that i put the plug in the line in left right and line out left right it would be stereo.or is this stupid thinking. recording from ableton works ok ,from reason also. and recording voice from mic is also perfect.any solution to this..... thank'ssssss
