Really don't know if this is cool or not, but i just want to promo a track i did useing Live and Reaktor and did an experimental Flash animation synced to the music for it.
it's at:
http://zed.cbc.ca/go.ZeD?CONTENT_ID=781 ... =pixelworx
i though the style of the animation fit with Live's flat colour interface.
do you like the animation for it?
anyways, if i wasted your time, sorry for this post.
(i'm just a struggling artist) but aren't we all?
an if you do like it, thanks.
and LIVE 3 Rules,
thanks Mr. Ableton!

Thanks! i'm glad you liked it!
i synced it by doing the audio first, in Live
then in Flash i calulated the BPMs to the Frames /sec.
you can set the audio to stream and so you can "scrub" threw the animation and time sertain events to the audio track.
and even going back to the Audio track and trimming a few things to sync with the visuals.
my plan is to do a bunch of these "tracks" and then put out a DVD.
so it's like an audio CD but it would play on your DVD player with visuals.
you think it would work?
buy it?
i was just recently layed off from work (as an interactive art director) so now i got to think what to do with my life.
I tired of working for the "MAN"

i've kinda been wondering the same thing.. about whether or not there realy is a market for A/V DVDs. as a consumer (although a ver bad one) i've never reallly seen a product like this for sale anywhere. it is possible that there are some esoteric shops that would carry such things.. but i've never heard of them.
i would stay away from DVD for now because of cost per unit and consumer availability. if you want to go the route of your linked example, i would say that there are two paths you can go by:
1. live performance. make it a whole show where you do some Live stuff with Flash visuals. i don't know what it's like in TO, but in Montreal the audio/visual techno laptop - thing is getting pretty popular. maybe it's time to relocate?
2. integrate the Flash animation onto your audio CD, turning it into a multimedia CD.
i would do the latter, since you can still sell it in a record shop.

Hmmm... a big part of the fun in listening to music cd's on the 'puter is that you can surf the web and do other things while listening. So I would guess many people would not find it very convenient to watch the flash show while listening. They might check it out once out of pure interest but I doubt it will catch on.
As many cool things it appears to be a great idea artistically but not as great an idea by commercial means

I was thinking DVD because you could stuff alot more content on the disc, and a CD seem like it focuses on audio and if there's any visual stuff on it, it just seems like an extra, not the main point.
A DVD is focused on video so the audio/video seem more balanced.
...maybe it's just me, but i love the connection of audio to visual.
i love when they play well together.
i think flash and live are a great match.
when i first saw live, it looked like they made it in flash!
Anyone have the Michel Gondry DVD?
He's a video director, has done brilliant stuff for the white stripes, daft punk, bjork, chemical brothers, cibo matto, ect. and has a bunch of home made video stuff on it. The whole package is so inspirational.
and the Chris Cunningham DVD is really good too.
in any case i just got to do more work....
thanks.

What is this "zed" site by the CBC?
How do you get your work online? It seems pretty cool.
Have you thought about hooking up with some of the TO promoters to do visuals?
Drop the CD idea...either make your creative available over the web or on DVD. DVD's are marginally more expensive than CDs to press and have much greater percieved value to the consumer (god I hate that word!!!!).
Plus you could do 5.1 surround mixes to accompany your visuals which truly is the next generation in the musical experience.
Commercially, it's really hard to make real cash for a while but if you stick with it over say 5 years and do outstanding work....you can probably start making a living doing what you enjoy.
It's just that "struggle period" is hard for so many people to go through....so get cracking!
