Sampling and looping live, how to setup mikes

Quick question for those who record instruments/vocals/effects with a mike live and then loop that recording as part of a live set.

I'd like the audience to be able to hear the original instrument sound as it is being recorded as well as the loop of the sample once its set playing.

What's the standard way of doing this?

Monitor the sound in ableton so the sound comes out of the PA through ableton as its being recorded?

Use existing on stage mikes to hear the original sound through the PA first, and then through ableton once its looping?

Lastly can anyone recommend a (cheap) mike that would suit this kind of use? I'm recording stuff like a digi, whistle, hand drum, vocals etc.

Many thanks

Well what i did wuz buy an M-Audio Fast Track Hub to filter out noise! I also bought a mic at best buy for about $50 there are different mics for different things. Condensed mics pic up everythin from a police siren outside ur house. U should go with a regular mic! one for about $20. In order to use the mic u will have to buy an audio hub! I have spent $600 on Da ABleton Live Lite, $150 on a O2 midi keyboard controller,$110 on da fast track audio hub, $55 which is over $800. If ur really dedicated to ur music u will have to spend a few bucks to do it da right way!
