Browsing and searching through the forums, it seems to be a crapshoot with firewire interfaces for intel macs. So for those of you who have macbooks/macbook pros, which firewire interface do you NOT recommend, and why? Any and all input is appreciated.

My Audiofire is ok (on c2d macbook). Not had many wrinkles and I expect Echo to sort the problems out. The sound is free from noises and is nice and full.
Just for balance....

I think the only firewire interface you can pretty much guarantee to work in a solid fashion is the MOTU Ultralite (and maybe the RME fireface interfaces, esp. on PCs). These are expensive in Europe (compared with the US price).
If you search the forum you'll see all the rest have had user problems.

Well I am still trying to use my audiofire because the other interface I have (Which works great) does not have a digital IN, which is the main reason I bought the audiofire and is what my desk and external gear runs into my setup through. If i had a pc then i would go for the emu interfaces anyway.
I would not recommend Echo to anyone. Shi*e.

thanks, so what is "the other interface"? would be interesting as i don't need digital ins...
oh, and one thing i definitely _can_ recommend the Audiofire2 for is the looks...
i mean, the firebox makes my eyes puke then explode.

looks can be deceiving....
as robin told,
so far the only advisable soundcards for mbp are the ultralite, rme and probably metric halo (these latter 2 on a higher budget)
all the others seem some issues, some of the very serious ones...

Indeed that is true. There are also users of all those problematic devices who have no trouble. Even users with m-audio products.
Note to MOTU: make a smaller ultralite....please....(or at least sort out the Euro pricing).

Sorry Zerobae, the other interface I have is my XStation. I love the look of the audiofire too.
