The Live skin files are *.ASK Anyone know what that file type is? Photoshop won't recogize it. What program do I need to create my own skins?

thanks,
Chad

my guess is that .ASK stands for Ableton Skin or something to that effect which would mean only Live could open it since it's the host app. i'm not positive but i don't think it's possible. i've made skins for the Quicktime player but it's a different ball game....please post if you find a way though.

open up in notepad or simpletext

Yes, i would like to be able to create my own skins as well. i have opened them up in simpletext and the file is actually pretty small, and i will try to guess what corresponds to the colors and let you know my results.

the new update comes with some extra skin variations you might want to check out. thanks ableton.

(( hey michael, i did not know that we have a work unit 12.... whats my unit nr ??? ))

anyway, on the monolake website there are now more then two new skins and i will continue making new ones when i find time for it. the skins are currently just color settings ( a long list of RGB values ) and that`s why you cannot do anything usefull with a .ask document in photoshop or any other application. but if you want to personalize your live you can have a look at the resources folder. it is not sooo obvious what all these files are doing, but if you open them in photoshop and have a look at the alpha channel.... but you should copy the original files first and put them somewhere save...

Could you (Ableton or Monolake) make more skins like the Disco78 one?
Yeah I know I got horrible tastes  but I'm tired of Skins that are made of variations on one color!
Thanks

... i will provide a few new skins in the near future.
but to create more funky ones we need to change stuff in our software and since people do request VSTi etc... the priority of doing so is low.

i will post a message once a have my new skins ready.

I just downloaded monolake's skins and copied them into the live skin folder. now i am wondering how to select them, if the skin selector only shows the preset skins (even after rebooting the system). thank you for your help.
