i am running ableton 6 on an intel imac
i have an motu ultralite interface
i have connected my AKAI MPC2000XL to the midi input on my ultralite
i want to trigger my drums etc in ableton with my MPC pads
however, i can't seem to figure out how to set up the midi on my mac and more impotantly i'm not sure what settings i need to adjust on my MPC to get this working.
has anyone out there got a similar setup that can help a brand new ableton user out?

the main things are:
what do i set on my MPC to make the midi out signal work?
what do i need to set on my mac?
do i need to assign the pads on the MPC to trigger different sounds within ableton?

since i posted the above question i have figured everything out with my gear.
my problems now are all within ableton, so hopefully this will be easier to solve.
i am getting the midi light flashing when i press the pads on my MPC but no sound.
i have impulse open and i have selected a kit ,but i can't seem to figure out how to assign the sounds in the kit to the pads on the MPC.
i was able to turn the device (impulse) on or off with the pads on my MPC, but no sounds.
it's as if ableton thinks i am using a control surface such as the novation etc
so do i have the midi perferences set up wrong?
i read the tutorial but it didn't seem to have any solution for my specific problem
perhaps no tuorial has a solution for my problems ;]

any guidance?

Impulse only responds to certain notes, they're not user-configurable, if you're not playing those notes then you won't hear anything. Can't remember the notes but if you create a midi clip, enable the sound preview headfone button at the the side of the clp and scroll down it you'll be able to figure them out. Presuming you have samples in the Impulse slots the only other reason/s you won't get sound is either not having monitor set to on, or not having the channel record-enabled. You're not assigning the sounds in Impulse to the mpc, it's the other way around. In the midi in/out tab for the channel just select all inputs and all channels and you should be happening soon.

Impulse responds to C3 (middle C) --- C4. eight white keys only.

Does setting the MPC pads to these work?

Otherwise check with another MIDI Instrument such as simpler that responds to the whole keyboard range by default.

on the mpc go to the program screen (shift 6), then into one of the drum folders, hit pad 1 and the mpc display should read: A01=Note:37. The mpc midi notes as default are not the same as the impulse trigger notes so change Note:37 to 60. that should give you the abillty to trigger sounds in cell 1 of impulse. But make sure that in the main screen of the mpc that drum 1 is outputting to the midi output you have connected to live. should look something like: S:DRUM1: 1A-Device01. Then back to your program page and repeat the process of changing the midi note number for each pad. It goes something like: pad 1 = 60, pad 2 = 62 pad 3 = 64, etc.. you can just cicycle the nuimbers till you see it triggering impulse.

Save the program and recall it whenever you need it.
