importing .nki troubles - whats the final word ?

it being the weekend, I dont expect a reply from support 'til monday sometime
so I'll run this by the forum on the off-chance someone can help in the meantime.

I purchased a selection of small sample libraries which came with .nki & halion patches along with the wavs. They all refuse to import, bar one instrument. The error reads "the sample cant be imported because it is copy protected"

I emailed the sample library company, and got this reply:
That was strange, we have not copy protected any .nki files.

This must be because of a later version of Kontakt when we did the programs.

Does SAMPLER support SoundFont files or maybe HALion? Use them instead.

It could be worth contacting the Ableton support about this issue
because it seems related to their sampler's way of reading different
.nki versions.

All programs you bought has been made with Kontakt 1.5.3.010 except
the Pianica that's made with an earlier version.
pianica was the instrument that imported. these instruments came with soundfonts too but they are not as high fidelity, I want to use the 24bit wavs...

I did a search, and I didnt really find a conclusive answer as to whats going on, just a few instances of people emailing their .nki files to support...

any ideas ?

danke

b0unce,

could you please send me one of the .nki files which don't import.
The audio files are not needed. Thank you.

hi,

I have the same problem with sampler.. I can't load some nki files.

The strange thing is that i can load some nki files from the same library, while others are copy protected.

I can send you an example of nki not working.

thank you

Hi aneuryzma,
I've been onto ableton support about this since starting this thread, way back in march.
Infact ... it seems they forgot about it or something because I had to send files a second time recently, I was bitching a couple of weeks ago about how god damn long it's taking them to fix this and the fact they STILL advertise this function even tho they've known since AT LEAST march that it flat-out does not work right. I had to re explain the situation to a moderator as if it was the first time it was reported etc. Luckily I save all my emails & correspondence.

also, pay no heed to the guys who'll pass the buck onto native instruments. native instruments arent the one's selling sampler and claiming it does things it can not do in their on going advertising campaign.

email your files to ableton support, and dont hold your breath.

hey, thanks for the quick reply.

I have solved the problem, loading and saving with another name the nki + patches, with kontakt.

Or, better.. I've just tried with one nki. Now I'n going to convert all the library.. I'll let you know

ya, that work around reportedly works about 50% of the time. Depends on how lucky you are. and if you own kontakt. but anyways, in my case owning kontakt wouldn't make a difference - I tried that work around with various versions of kontakt 1 & 2 @ my mates house. the solution is mapping the wavs one by one yourself, or buying kontakt just to run the libraries.

I'd settle for ableton changing their hideously wrong advertising lies in the meantime.
