Sorry if this has already been posted, did a quick search and didn't see anything. There are two things that every year I say I am going to do but never actually end up doing. One is going to mutek, and the other is going to DEMF.

Well, three..... I also say I am going to start skateboarding again but that's for another thread/forum....

This year I think I am going to do it, load up the jeep and drive out to Detroit this May....

Try the Pontchartrain hotel in Detroit. Its right across from Hart Plaza (that's where the festival is) in downtown Detroit.

Rooms are about 299 a night but I have gone down the last 2 years and have splint each night with about at least 6 ppl (you can get 2 bed rooms). You can also cancel your reservations 24 hours prior of the day your suppose to check in.

Its a decent hotel and you can't go wrong with it being right across the street but it gets full very fast at that time of the year and the hotel turns into a 'debauchery party' full of fucked up kids!

Gotta love tho' Detroit ROCKS!!!

RIP Dilla

Great lineup and looking forward to that weekend but I was really hoping Ben Sims would be there. I need me some bangin loopy tribal techno which is a rare thing these days in the states.

Oh weee...

All of these big names lose their luster the second you relaize you are surrounded by thousands wiggers who know nothing about any of them but are just there to pick up their female wigger counterparts and maybe steal a wallet or two. Seriously, they thought they had these problems beat by charging $15 a day or whatever vs. free but that clearly hasn't helped

Also, don't expect to be blown away musically by more then a couple artists. I've been going every year since the festival started and every year I'm really into seeing someone and they end up sucking all over the place. (Last years Orb performance comes to mind...)

This year I would be into seeing Jeff Mills as he hasn't played DEMF in a few good years but I'm not going. I'll do something else. I'm 30 years old now and I've honestly been getting a bit sick of it more each year. Outside of an amazing Collabs 3000 performance (Speedy J and Chris Liebing) nothing else I heard was even remotely close to euphoric. Poor to average more like it.

Take into consideration the afterparties. If you get a chance to attend, expect the place to be packed with drunk kids yelling at nothing. You will typically get a good performance though as it's much more exclusive and intimate setting and the artists are also getting paid a ton more to have private billing.

I much prefer a normal Paxahau event, anytime of the year. They truely are amazing promoters and I drive up there with a few friends at least 5 times a year still. The crowd is older, wiser and quality of the performance is 9/10 far better. I'm glad they took over doing DEMF and I do realize that there is nothing they can do to control the mess of the weekend.

I'd seriously like someone to tell me they don't agree that 90% of that place is actually there becuase they know who Vladislav Delay is...
