I have two Alesis monitor speakers. But they only work sometimes. The little blue light on the front sometimes flickers and no sound comes out. But most of the time they are OK.
I don't want to throw them away, but I don't want to spend the money on getting them fixed, and I can't sell them.
what shall i do with them? Does anyone want them for free if they pay the postage? (Which could be quite a lot).

Im not sure if anyone on freecycle will really want some huge assed heavy black boxes which merely flash a blue LED, it seems unlikely.

I have one monitor which requires a new power supply (PSU cost from Alesis £110 ) I have one which still makes a sound when it likes.


BTW - Its known flaw in these Alesis monitors.

has anyone had similar problems with the M1 520s? i was going to get some because they're cheap and i'm a thrifty fucker.

I would hope it was an issue only with the batch of M1 MKII, but I would google in depth with winky blinky broken keywords. It took 6 months for the M1 MKIIs to start dying off.

I've reached 3 conclusions after my debacle with cheap monitoring

1: don't bother with cheap active monitors - false economy
2: perhaps cheap passives with a second hand decent amp is more cheap, scalable , sensible, listenable, adjustable
3: in a cheap setup the room is most often more colouring than the speakers

something to think about when buying 'budget monitors' which produce what are essentially producing very average hi fi speaker results (when all is considered) for an inflated price.

If you have ever used big 'pro studio' monitors (££$$) all this other crap we can afford just makes your ears cry

that's what i was thinking, so i didn't really see the need to spend an extra 100 pound on something i wouldn't notice - i'm not really in a postion to acoustically treat my room, so... but i'll probably regret it.

..we have been living with some Alesis A1 passives for probably 8 years now. Finally upgrading to some Adam P11As – ordered them at the Sounds Expo show last week in London and hoping they will be hear in the next few days..

I can't believe that this is a well known fault!! They are still selling them!
Alesis told me they were mystified by the problem, but that I could try spending £90 per speaker on getting them repaired.

I'll do what I did when I wanted to get rid of some knackered old furniture when I lived in brighton; leave them in the street and wait for my neighbour to creep out in the night and steal them.
