All possible causes for CPU spikes

In this thread please add all possible causes for CPU Spikes in Ableton live, as a reference.
- USB hubs of any kinds (unplugging my Targus 7 ports USB 2 Hub solved nearly 90% of all my CPU spikes)
- ACPI battery control (try disabling it if possible)
- Anti-virus/antispyware of any kind, disable/quit all of them
- Any USB device not needed (removing my USB scanner helped a lot)
Note : I completely removed CPU spikes by using Windows 2000 instead of Windows XP. Negative point : some VSTi are not running on Windows 2000.

If you want to get realy geeky, you can use various windows system diagnostic tools to measure ISRs & DPCs (geeky processing that is done on behalf of drivers in the OS kernel). Some devices cause really long ISRs or DPCs that can starve the CPU and lead to glitching.
On my PC, I found that my network driver was the biggest culprit. Just disabling the network device didn't stop the driver from acting, but disabling the bridge on the MB that contains the network driver did wonders.
