pickups are picking up noise from somewhere, like your computer monitor. If you're on a strat or similar 3 pickup single coil guitar, set the pickup selector to positions 2 or 4 and you get a humbucking effect like on humbucker pickups.
Turn off your computer monitor or other gear until the hum goes away. It has nothing to do with your sound card.

you're getting interference somewhere or your pickups are teh crap. do you use a crt monitor? does you interface provide impedence matching? is your power supply dirty? lots of possibilities why it sounds buzzy. sometimes just moving about the room can make a difference.

moving around the room might help. sometimes florescent lights can be a problem if there are any in the house. sometimes if the tv is on behind you it can do it.
of course you could always run it into a noise supressor first too.

Sounds to me like you're not grounded - are you pluged in to a grounded outlet?

Hi.
I always had this problem with my Fender Strat Plus (3 Lace Sensors Pickups) even in expensive studios. I remember they made me walk around the studio until I was able to find a position were the hum went away.
Nowadays in my home I experience the same problems. I have found that I have to play 1 meter away from my CRT monitor and possibly perpendicular to the monitors (that are not shielded). Soon when I can afford it I'll buy me a couple of shielded monitors to begin with then I might look for an LCD display. One thing I've learned for sure is that wi-fi or cordless phones are part of the problem but you can eliminate only what you have in your house....

. Of course check your cables, all of them. A poorly grounded cable, an abused cable or an old one might bring in interference.
- hope it helps
