Why do mac users away babble on about their beloved macs? There's a lad at work here who never fucking shuts up about them. I mean really, what's so great about them? "They look better" - no they don't, they look like a throwback from the 80's; "They perform better" - no they don't, on a pound-by-pound (dollar-by-dollar) basis pc's/laptop's out-perform them; "They never crash" - bollocks, they crash just as much as a pc running XP; "They're built better" - for what exactly? I not gonna take it on a building site.

I've never once heard a decent argument that clearly states why macs are so much better (I think you're all just blinded by the supposed 'coolness factor') but feel free to try.

After using Windows for the last 12 years, I can unequivocally say that I prefer OSX.

There's a guy here who swears that his Fender is so much better than a Gibson... another guy who claims that Fords are so much better than Chevrolets... and get this... there's this guy who won't stop talking about how much better Canon cameras are than Nikon!

If you don't own one, don't work in Logic, Motion, Finalcut Pro, Soundtrack Pro, etc... then you'll just not get it. I went from sh%tty pc to Mac about a year and a half ago and never looked back. No more viruses, dll errors, Ableton freeze ups, Cubase lockups, this driver missing, that driver missing, windows resource issues, registry issues, spyware, bots, I could go on but there's no reason. The bottom line was that I spent as much time "tuning" my PC to try and make it go faster so I could maybe get one or two more tracks and a synth in my track mixer to having software that took advantage of multiple processors, a MUCH BETTER OS and better architecture. I can't speak to the Intel Macs, but I would not trade in my Dual 2.7 Ghz PowerPC for anything right now. It hasn't even so much as hiccuped....ever.

plus adding new hardware or software is much easier on mac.

things just tend to work when added, unlike pc's which seem to always require a lot of fussing.

I think that's subjective, I've added hardware many times to a pc without problems and installing software is hardly challenging. I've nothing against macs, I just get the feeling people who buy them are sold by the idea of owning a mac because they're 'cool', which kind of puts me off them.

Less right brained activities to manage IMO. No virus scans, defragging, spyware removal, registry to mess with, updates are easy and simple to install. The stuff you don't need to see, you don't, the stuff that you do need to access a lot is easy to get to.

Not saying one is better (or more stable) than the other, but having recently switched to OSX myself, I can see why some people like both platforms now.

I think that is more a Logic thing, than a Mac thing (notice I say Mac thing because I know Apple writes Logic ).

Supposedly, or as rumor would have it, they have been working on some monster upgrade/possible new program that will replace Logic. Therefore, they may not have been trying so hard to optimize Logic after their acquisition of it from emagic.

Thanks Tarekith, that's more the sort of answer I'm looking for, the sort of things that affect you as a user on a day-to-day basis, not the usual " 'cos they look better" bollocks. So why is there no defragging?

But assuming I run Live and external hardware without problems on my XP laptop with multiple plugins, tracks, etc. would there be any real advantage to me switching to a mac?

OSX's HFS+ file system does it automatically. There are tools to do it manually, though.
